One of the many things I love about Broadway performances is that it allows you to step into another world; another era.
Last night I took my nine-year old, Emma, to see “An American In Paris”. It was the most awarded new musical of 2015 and winner of four Tony Awards®. An American In Paris is inspired by the Academy-Award winning 1951 film about an American soldier and a French girl who are both looking for new beginnings after the war.
The two of us sat in our chairs and eagerly waited for the performance to begin. We listened to each instrument in the orchestra prepare for the adventure they would take us on. The story quickly captured our attention as it unfolded beautifully in front of our eyes. I was in awe of not only the musical portion, but the expansive choreography and dancing that kept all eyes mesmerised on the stage.

I have always loved classic Hollywood style and 1940’s genre, and An American In Paris takes you back in time to relive the old Hollywood charm. If you’ve ever seen extravagant dance numbers in vintage films, this show will magnify the nostalgia to a whole new level.

While there weren’t many children at the performance we attended, if you know of a young one who is old enough to sit through 2 1/2 hours and loves dances and ballet, An American In Paris will surely be a memorable event for them.
