A Fun Brunch Cocktail

Last week I shared a little bit about a Mother’s Day Brunch event I attended at the Whole Foods Market with bakery owner and Pastry Chef Jackie Kai Ellis. She showed us how to make confit orange. Today I wanted to share with you a delicious and fun brunch cocktail that I had hoped to share prior to Mother’s Day, but you know how things go… better late than never! You can sip on this fun brunch cocktail any Sunday – and if you needed another excuse did you know that this Friday, May 13th is World Cocktail Day? 🙂 Jackie created this delicious drink for us using that confit orange that will definitely impress your friends.

I’ve always been intrigued with the art of cocktail making, though I’ll admit I have no knowledge surrounding it – only a desire to learn more. I love learning little bits and pieces through the events I attend, and I am happy to share them on here with you.

The Mimosa 75 was created as a combination of a classic mimosa and a French 75. It’s a delicious brunch beverage that I think any brunch guest will enjoy! I’ll definitely be serving it the next time I have guests over.

Here’s Jackie’s recipe for a fun brunch cocktail:

Ingredients

  • 1 ounce gin
  • 1/2 ounce orange confit syrup
  • 1.5 ounces fresh lemon juice
  • 1.5 ounces fresh orange juice
  • dry sparkling wine to top
  • ice

Instructions

Combine gin, syrup, lemon and orange juice in a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake until well chilled and strain into a glass. Top with sparkling wine and garnish with a slice of orange confit to serve.

Jackie suggested that if you have a large brunch party that you could mix up the beverage ahead of time for the amount of servings you need instead of using the cocktail shaker, and keep it in the refrigerator until ready for use. Then pour into each flute and top off with sparkling wine. This way you won’t find yourself spending all of your time mixing cocktails for everyone. 🙂

Do you have a go-to brunch cocktail? I have always been a fan of mimosas, but this beverage is like a mimosa on steroids or something! It’s pretty amazing.
