Wine Barrel Summer Salad

Okay, I will begin with this: I don’t have a green thumb. Probably because I don’t feel like I have the time it takes to keep up with everything, or perhaps because I just am super forgetful with watering. BUT we have found something that lets us have a little something without being overwhelming. A little salad garden in wine barrels. We have several different kids of lettuce, leeks, carrots, peas, celery, and tomatoes (not pictured). How fun is it to be able to walk into your yard and make a little salad for dinner? Doesn’t get any fresher than that! And it teaches the kids how to grow and appreciate the food, and makes eating salad a little bit more fun, knowing that you grew it yourself.
What unique garden ideas have you done?

I just planted zucchini in a barrel. Keep your fingers crossed. The deer much away everything that grows outside of my deck's protection, so I'm trying this. Hopefully my deck will be crisscrossed with zucchini runners! I found you through the Meet and Greet Hop. I'm following! Come and visit me at Blue Plate Sundays.

I think this is a great idea! I always say I'm going to start a garden - and even with a green thumb, the task sounds too big. This is the perfect size for me.

I container gardened for many years with great success but I really missed a larger garden so I converted some backyard space for that larger garden. I still have containers too!

I also do not have a green thumb. But this year we did plant lettuce and were able to use the "fruits" of our labor on sandwiches the other day! It was so awesome. Being able to grow enough to make a salad boggles my mind. Maybe someday. :)

Also wanted to say I enjoy reading your blog and wish I had more time to read/comment. But I am here and happily following along!

What a great idea! I wanted to have a garden this year but never got around to digging or planting. I told husband just the other day, though, that I for sure want one next summer. I really feel I can and will put the effort into this time. I would be SO nice to be able to go "shopping" in my backyard.
