Career Dreams While Camping at the Beach

Career Dreams While Camping on the beach:

A whole week has passed by since I’ve said hello to you on here. I’ve found it such a challenge lately to balance all of the hats that I wear. I’ve been planning and brainstorming like crazy behind the scenes, but it’s left me no time to share the creative process on here.

I’m hoping that’s going to change soon. When I was a kid I never really had a direct calling of what or who, I wanted to be when I grew up. I remember when I was very little I had stereotypical aspirations of becoming a ballerina or a figure skater (please tell me I’m not the only one here). A little later on I thought it might be fun to become a pastry chef.

As I got older life did a lot of changing and somewhere along the way I forgot to dream ahead. I forgot to think of whom I wanted to become, because my home life wasn’t very stable. Now that I look back to my teenage years though I recall one thing that I always did to cope.

I wrote.

I’d write about my daily life, the things I did, the food I ate. I wrote poetry and creative stories. While I had a difficult time speaking in front of others or exhibiting my emotions any other way, paper became my best friend.

Looking back I can now see why I’m sitting here writing to you now.

Writing and sharing memories and ideas is what I love to do.

Do you have a career that you are in love with? Or did you bury those childhood aspirations for something more practical that could compensate you better? I think I fell into somewhere in the middle of those two spectrams.

When you were a kid what did you want to be when you grow up? Perhaps you’re like me and didn’t really know. If that’s the case, what did you enjoy doing? What was something that made you happy without any outside feedback or praise from peers. What did you do just for you?

Are you living your dream life? Or are you like most of us, struggling to figure out exactly what that is? I’ll be the first to raise my hand and say that I entered my “other” career for money and job security…and it’s paid off. I always knew that I needed a back up career to keep my family afloat, however that doesn’t mean that I’m not trying to follow my passion as well.

I hope to someday be able to make that complete leap and only pursue things that make me happy to wake up and work every day.

Last weekend we spent a couple of nights cabin camping at the beach, where I had a small amount of time to do some reflecting on this topic.

I thought I’d share these thoughts as well as photos of our trip with you.

What makes you happy? What is your passion in life? I’d love to hear your stories as to how you’ve learned what your’s is.

~Melissa

[…] I feel that I’ve done fairly well over the past 5 years balancing that, with the exception of 2017. Having taken a part-time nursing job in 2016 in an entirely new field really threw me for a loop. While I can’t complain as I have a wonderful schedule, it’s still been an adjustment that I’ve had difficulty maintaining alongside this website – my passion. […]
