Living Locally: The Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum

Last week I shared photos from our visit to the Wings and Waves Waterpark, which is located at the Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum in McMinnville, Oregon. Today I want to tell you about our trip to the rest of the museum.

We are lucky here in the Willamette Valley to live close to a lot of different attractions – the beach, Mt. Hood, Portland, wine tasting, etc… all are less than 2 hours away. I actually live only 5 miles away from the Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum and have visited it a couple of times now.

If you know anyone who is even remotely interested in airplanes and aviation history, this museum is a must see.

What makes Evergreen so special?

The Evergreen Museum is home to the infamous Spruce Goose. That alone is reason enough to take the kids and see this amazing piece of our history, but there is so much more to see as well.

There are two large buildings housing a large variety of aircraft. The first building holds the airplanes, and the second building focuses on space craft. Between the two buildings there is a third building that has an IMAX theater inside. On the grounds there are also multiple airplanes to see, a playground area, a chapel, camping sites, and, of course, the waterpark.

Inside of the aviation museum there is also a kids hands-on area that will keep them entertained with brain challenging games and puzzles.

If you get hungry you can eat at the cafe located inside of the aviation museum, or if you plan ahead and pack a lunch, there are plenty of picnic tables where you can enjoy your lunch outside on nice days.
