A couple of days ago was President’s Day – which meant no school for the kids! It was a chilly (yet sunny) day in Oregon and I’m took the day to gather and re-focus on things for the week ahead. For the past several weeks I’ve been posting topics in my Celebrate Life series, but this week I thought I’d switch it up a bit and share a yummy cocktail recipe that I enjoyed a while back.
Lately I’ve been craving lots of fresh fruit….and not just what we ‘normally’ buy. I’ve been wanting to try bigger varieties of fruit (like this exotic fruit platter I created a few weeks ago). I happened to find some blood oranges at the grocery store a while back and had to purchase a few.
Since I had plenty of fresh lemons (I always keep a bowl of fresh lemons in my kitchen) and vodka, I decided to make a blood orange lemon drop, because, why not?
The blood orange gave the classic citrus drink even more flavor and a beautiful color. I love this drink because it’s just so simple, yet delicious. I am rather obsessed with lemons – I’m seriously considering trying to figure out a way to have a lemon tree, even though I don’t live in the best climate for one!
Blood Orange Lemon Drop Recipe
Blood Orange Lemon DropPrint This
- 1/2 blood orange
- 1 lemon
- 2 ounces of vodka
- 1 ounce of triple sec
- 1 tsp of granulated sugar (more or less for your taste)
Squeeze the juice from the blood orange and the lemon. Transfer to a cocktail shaker. Add the vodka, triple sec, sugar, and ice (approximately 1 cup or so). Shake until blended.
If desired, rim a glass with sugar prior to pouring the cocktail. Take a half of lemon and rub around the edge or your glass, then carefully dip into sugar.
Pour into the glass and enjoy!
